In not leading my life according to other people, people get seemingly upset by my mere existence of leading a life filled with simplicity and joy. There seems to be a profound change in my life, a transformation of sorts, and with this leveling up, people who were once close to me are quickly and rapidly revealing their true colors and we are parting ways.
In a conversation last week in an open forum for quilting, the tone of the discussion quickly evolved when Black women started jumping in and questioning representation. As I observed sides start to seemingly try to emerge, something beautiful happened.
The facilitator held space for other people’s grievances even though she had no understanding of their experiences. She held space for them, and even invited them to speak and share their feelings they were writing in the Zoom chat box at rapid paces. Do you know what happened next?
