Wow, I have been feeling a whirlwind of emotions as our hemisphere steps into the full Yin energy of Winter. Winter can feel deep, damp, dark, and depressing. I lavish in those feelings as they compel me to profess via prose. How have you been feeling?
Recently I started dyeing some fabric as I planned to make quilts all winter long and it dawned on me that I really dislike formatted piecing. I decided that freeform would be a lot more expressive and conducive to who I am as a person, and support my practice to slow down and enjoy the love of crafting over the consumer mentality of creating to consume.
For the holidays, I recently purchased a gift of a quilting course that I am so excited to partake in. It is led by another dynamic Gemini who does it all, and I can’t wait to learn more about her process.
As I settle more into who I am now, I am so thankful for what an incredibly expansive year 2021 was. I can quite honestly say I think this was my best year yet. I was a good mother, and I managed to find some really great balance in my life by simplifying.
Leaning into the energy of 2022 I can’t help but feel like magic is on the horizon as I plan to reach more people with my sound.
My final single of 2021, Bloody Rainbows (studio version) is officially live.
As a present to you, on January 1st, another song will be released. This song has been sitting on my computer for a couple of years and I am a bit ashamed that I waited so long to put it out. I do hope you enjoy listening. For those of you who join my subscription side of Substack, there will be an early listening party.
My final show of 2021 was a rainout, and I was thankful for the opportunity to rest in the comfort of my home.
I invite you to join me on my YouTube channel if you have not already as that is where my focus and energy will be in 2022. You can also find me on junk food internet corners such as TikTok (the current Wild Wild West of the interweb) and Instagram.
In closing, I would like to invite you to give yourself an embrace and thank yourself with some kind words of what you learned in 2021 about yourself and how you are happy to be in your own skin. Gratitude is something best served kindly and as someone who is recovering from the tendency to have more negative ideas and thoughts about myself than positive, I am reframing the way in which I speak to myself, redirecting my thoughts when they are cruel or unkind into positive memories. If you are curious about that reply to me and I will explain more.
The next time I write you it may possibly be a new year.
Until then,
Fo Fera

🌙 Written under a Capricorn sun and a Leo moon, feeling like life is truly worth living for.
Current obsession:
Foraging in nature parks.
Currently watching:
Such an incredibly poignant and touching film. As someone who has lived through bouts of homelessness, it brought me to tears multiple times. No one asks for it or deserves it, and as a gift for enjoying my first year of freeform prose on Substack, I would love for you to consider making a $25.00 donation towards my goal of $500 for two local non-profits, locally based in Oakland and Alameda here: PayPal
Donations will be made to Lava Mae X and First Place for Youth. Learn more about their mission here:
On another note, it was hard to find an organization that was led without pretense. This is disheartening, and I may need to consider getting involved with some organizations to bring them down to earth.
Currently making:
Japchae on repeat and finishing up old sewing projects slowly.
Currently reading:
Hedy’s Folly
Navajo and Hopi Dyes
Gratitude:
Thankful for my unique perspective that propels me to live my life unconventionally and true. Incredibly thankful for ma fille, my health, my forgiving heart, and the windy path that has led me to the current version of myself that makes me smile every time I look in the mirror. Oh- and I met a boy!
