Today, I acknowledge and thank each and every one of you that shows up to read my words, and wanted to share some items I am loving for this Earth Day. My Substack is growing sustainably and I feel so thankful to have this corner of the internet for gentle community. Have you been feeling nourished by the shift into spring or has loneliness emerged?
As the season shifts I dedicate my efforts to the power of no and saying yes only to what resonates, protecting both my energy and my time.
As someone with many ideas swirling around in my mind, one I was hoping to bring to fruition in the town I live in is a way to reduce waste. Little did I know, there was already a wonderful app that has made it’s way to the states called Too Good To Go. The concept is simple, you download the app, create a profile, choose the amount of distance you are willing to travel to pick up goodies and then log on to see what offers are available in your area. So far, I have picked up bagels for $4.99 that lasted us a couple of weeks (I freeze them), Indian dinner for two for $5.99, and too many donuts for two for $3.99. I love the concept of reducing waste and also offering an exchange of reciprocity and the ability to learn about new businesses.
For garments, a splendid resource is Suay Sew Shop based out of Los Angeles. They have an incredible process where you can send in clothing for their community dye bath to extend the life of your garments. As someone who does not find joy in clothes shopping anymore and tends to make what I wear or simply wear what I have, I think this resource is wonderful to shift to extending the life of what you have and spicing it up by changing the color for the new season.
For art supply shopping, one of my favorite shops locally is the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse. They have incredible items available from home decorating to fabric to craft supplies. It is a world filled with simple joys for an artist type.
However you spend this Earth Day may it be filled with wonder, peace, and some time giving back to nature.
Do you have something in your area that reduces waste?

My first in-person sale of my hand built ceramic pieces inspired by my solo hiking adventures will be at Walnut Creek Downtown’s Uncorked Festival on Wednesday, April 26th from 5:30-9pm. I look forward to seeing some of you there and sharing more about my love of clay in-person. My work, inspired by Lassen National Park is earthy, unique, and delightful.

Finally, I’ll close with a song I wrote during the year before the pandemic. I truly never sing my songs the same as I always have alternate lyrics but this song is one of my favorites:
Earth baby
Mother lady
Feel the thunder
Hear me shout
Like lightning
Striking, violently
With an ever gentle (howl) stroke
Earth baby
Mother maybe
Feel the thunder
Hear me roar
Like lightning
Burning brightly
With an ever gentle growl
Howl
Home maybe
My earth baby
If we don’t change
Demise is near
Earth babies
We are, maybe
Shitting upon
The place we sleep
Earth baby
Mother lady
Sadly weeps
Herself to sleep
Earth baby
Mother maybe
Demise is near
Promises I fear
Hear
